Lara Ok in an Expert Interview: EMS in Golf Training

In her first professional season on the LET Access Series, she achieved a tied tenth place at the Lombardia Ladies Open in Italy. This year, Lara played on the Ladies European Tour (LET) for the first time, finishing 43rd in Switzerland. She qualified for several LET tournaments based on her ranking points, although she competed in only two events. Despite being diagnosed with scoliosis at age 14, she continued her career with determination and now uses EMS training to optimize her physical fitness.

myostyle: Lara, you are a young talent in golf and a strong personality. How important is motivation for you, especially when things aren’t going as planned?

Lara Ok: Motivation is very important for me, especially during challenging times. However, I rarely have to consciously motivate myself because my passion for golf is so deeply ingrained. Early on, I realized that golf is more than just a hobby for me—it’s my calling. Even when things don’t go perfectly, I hold on to that enthusiasm. It’s essential for me to carefully analyze mistakes, work hard to correct them, and maintain a positive mindset. But the most important thing is to never lose the joy and fun of the game. Only then can I bring out the best in myself and keep growing.

myostyle: Golf requires immense concentration and precision. What are your strategies for maintaining your mental strength and focus during competitions?

Lara Ok: To maintain my mental strength and focus in competitions, I rely primarily on inner calm and confidence—in both myself and my game. It’s essential for me to stay balanced and composed, even when challenges arise. A clear strategy helps me focus on the essentials and not get distracted by external factors. And, most importantly, giving up is never an option for me. This resilience not only strengthens my focus but also gives me the mental stamina to approach each shot with full commitment.

myostyle: You have scoliosis, a challenge many people can relate to. How important is your physical condition in golf, and how does training affect your posture and flexibility?

Lara Ok: My physical condition is absolutely crucial for my performance in golf and my long-term health. Especially with my scoliosis, it’s important for me to keep my body stable and balanced to remain resilient and healthy over the years. For this, I rely on targeted, focused training and specific balancing exercises. In my case, this means training the left side more—such as by making left-handed swings or throws—to correct muscular imbalances. This type of training not only improves my posture but also enhances my flexibility and mobility, giving me a clear advantage on the course. It ensures that my body can handle the demands of an intense tournament schedule and stay healthy.

myostyle: Tell us more about your daily routine: What specific exercises or routines help you stay at your best physically and mentally?

Lara Ok: My daily routine is designed to keep me at my best both physically and mentally. A balanced, healthy diet is the foundation, providing my body with the energy and vitality it needs. Athletically, I rely on a versatile fitness regimen that helps me build strength, stability, and endurance. Yoga is also an important part of my routine, as it not only promotes my flexibility but also helps me find mental calm and strengthen my focus. I also enjoy long walks—they give me the chance to unwind and stay active. This combination of movement, mental training, and healthy eating supports me in giving my best every day.

myostyle: Golf requires excellent stability and a strong core. How do you work on your stability?

Lara Ok: Stability and a strong core are essential in golf, as they form the foundation for a powerful swing. I focus on targeted fitness training, especially for my abdominal and back muscles, to achieve the necessary balance and control. Functional exercises for the deep muscles further stabilize my core, helping me stay strong and consistent even during long tournaments.

myostyle: What makes EMS training with myostyle so special for you? What differences do you notice compared to traditional training?

Lara Ok: EMS training with myostyle is especially valuable to me because it’s so efficient and versatile. I can do it practically anywhere and save a lot of time because the workout is extremely effective. Compared to traditional training, I especially feel the reduced strain on my joints, which significantly lowers the risk of injury. EMS allows me to target and strengthen deep muscles and maintain my fitness at a high level without the usual strain and risks that often come with traditional training.

myostyle: In which areas of your body do you notice the greatest changes from EMS training, and how does this affect your performance on the golf course?

Lara Ok: Through EMS training, I notice the biggest changes in my back. I’m less prone to arching my back, my posture has improved, and my back pain has significantly reduced. I’ve also gained muscle mass in my shoulders and arms. Combined with speed training, this results in longer shots on the golf course without requiring extra effort. Overall, I feel more flexible and stable, giving me greater control and precision in my game.

myostyle: What advice would you give to hobby golfers looking to improve their game? Is there something from your experience with mental strength, focus, and training that you would particularly recommend?

Lara Ok: My main advice for hobby golfers is not to get overwhelmed by all the techniques and tips at the beginning. It’s important to approach the sport with joy and enthusiasm, train diligently, and never give up—this is when success comes naturally. Mental strength and patience are also key, especially for building concentration and endurance.

Lara Ok: I also highly recommend EMS training. An EMS suit is a fantastic way to stay fit and build strength with minimal injury risk. Especially in golf, it’s essential to stay healthy and avoid injuries.
